Dear FVSD families,
Below is my Candidate Statement:
Now is the time to move toward the future for Fountain Valley School District. We are proud of the past, but we must now prepare our students for the changing world through 21st Century learning skills, literacy skills, and life skills. Academic excellence can only happen if students feel safe to ask questions, engage, explore, experiment through creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. They deserve teachers who are respected and supported with updated curriculum, adequate supplies, and professional development. Facilities must be maintained and modernized to provide a safe environment. Technology not only conveys information, assesses student progress but also offers learning tools to support different learning styles. Attention to early childhood education should be included as we look ahead.
As a 35 year resident of Fountain Valley, former volunteer with Cox, Masuda and Fountain Valley High School PTAs, and Certified Music Teacher with 25 years of service in Fountain Valley, Santa Ana and Ocean View School Districts, I would welcome the opportunity to serve as a Fountain Valley School District Board Member. I will listen to families, teachers, and community members so that we can ask questions, gather information, explore solutions and provide the future that all students deserve.
MORE ABOUT EILEEN MAEDA....
Hello Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach FVSD Residents (and friends!)
My husband, Ross, and I have lived in Fountain Valley for over 35 years (30 years in Green Valley), We were proud to raise our daughters Nikki (Interior Designer) and Molly (Graphic Designer) in such a friendly, safe community where they received their education at Cox, Masuda, and Fountain Valley High School. In support of the public schools, I served on all 3 PTO/PTAs in multiple positions but was especially proud to chair the FVSD Reflections program.
I was a Girl Scout growing up, so was happy to serve as a leader for a Cox/Masuda Girl Scout Troop from Daisies all the way to Cadettes where 13 of our girls received their Silver Award. I was also the Social Chairman for the Green Valley Swim Team for over 10 years. For over 25 years, as a member of the Huntington Valley West Committee of the Philharmonic Society, I organized the Music Mobile for all 3rd Graders in Fountain Valley and Westminster School Districts. And I just received my 30 year recognition as Volunteer Usher for Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
My passion is sharing music making with kids! I volunteered at Cox for several years sharing classical music with all grades. But then found the need to share vocal music. Working with the district, I was the first vocal music teacher for all grades at all 8 schools! For 23 years, I taught Elementary Vocal/Instrumental Music at four schools in Santa Ana Unified School District, and in the last year am now teaching TK-3 Elementary Music at four schools Ocean View School District. Over my teaching career, I was honored as Teacher of the Year four times, and a highlight was being recognized by Yale University as one of 50 Distinguished Music Educators of America. Because I support teachers, I have been part of The California Arts Project as a teacher leader sharing training so that they can connect The Arts and Curriculum to support the whole child.
But being a Board of Trustees for Fountain Valley School District is not about me. My vision is to make sure that every student now, and in the future, reaches their full potential as an adult. My mission is to ensure that students and teachers have the very best tools for successful teaching and learning! Thank you for vote so we can all put students first.

“Eileen has been a very active parent in the district, long time PTA mom and taught music for the school district. Some may also know her as an amazing Girl Scout leader.
She has some wonderful ideas for the Fountain Valley School District and she is a woman with the utmost integrity. When you are deciding who to vote for this very important position, please consider casting a vote for her. Her leadership as a school board member will insure that Fountain Valley school district will continue to be one of the most highly rated school districts. As an educator herself she understands the workings of a public school system.
